The Munster Police Department is pleased to introduce our Police Social Worker, Jessica Sternberg.  Jessica is a Licensed Social Worker through the State of Indiana and has worked in social services for over 15 years.  The Police Social Worker (PSW) serves as a vital resource in addressing community needs by providing crisis intervention, supportive services, awareness, advocacy, and education.  This role involves collaborating with law enforcement officers, community partners and stakeholders, and residents to ensure holistic approaches to public safety and mental health challenges.  The PSW contributes to the department's mission of serving and protecting the community while promoting and advancing the training, education, and wellness for all of the Department's officers and employees.  The PSW will also provide support, counseling, and resources to all Town of Munster employees as needed.  The PSW serves as a bridge between law enforcement and the community to create compassionate and effective responses to crisis situations when needed.

Jessica started with the Department in May of 2025 and has been working closely alongside officers, administration, school personnel, and Munster residents.  Her duties include meeting with and supporting victims of mental health crises, substance use/addictions, domestic violence, or individuals/families in need of referrals for services or community resources.  She works to evaluate root causes of issues and crimes to improve outcomes and reduce recidivism.  She conducts follow up calls and meetings with individuals to ensure follow through and success of services and continues providing support as needed.  Jessica also participates in outreach programs, coalitions, and trainings to be best equipped to educate and inform the community and residents about available services, as well as remain up to date with the most accurate and reliable information and resources.
