4:00PM to 6:30PM
Throughout Munster's Neighborhoods
The Munster Police Department and CHOICE Community Council of Munster would like to invite all Munster residents to participate in our 25th Annual National Night Out Against Crime Celebration, which will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from 4:00pm to 6:30pm on streets all throughout Munster. Due to this year's health situation, we were not able to hold our usual event at the Community Pool but look forward to promoting positive and community partnerships as well as safety through this year's activities.
NEIGHBORHOOD PARADES

On October 6th, the Munster Police Department will be running mini-parades of police cars, Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) patrol cars, and trucks carrying safety mascots (Nat the Knight, Daren the Lion, and McGruff the Crime Dog) down ALL of the neighborhood streets of Munster. Volunteers will be tossing out giveaway items (while wearing personal protection equipment) to children in their front yards, and will also randomly provide some gift certificates for local restaurants to residents as door prizes.
FAMILY PICNICS & SAFETY GUIDE FOR RESIDENTS
Families are also encouraged to hold picnics that afternoon with their immediate families and to go over a NATIONAL NIGHT OUT SAFETY GUIDE FOR RESIDENTS with them, which is available by clicking HERE. While doing so, listen for the sirens and come out to view the parades as they go down your block!
DISPLAY BLUE LIGHTS & POST PHOTOS TO SOCIAL MEDIA

Residents and businesses are also encouraged to post blue lights to show your support for police and community partnerships, and to also post photos to social media which display positive interaction with our police department over the years (please include the #munsternightout with your post!).
FREE SUPPORT SIGNAGE & GLOW NECKLACES AVAILABLE

Starting on Friday, September 25th, Munster residents can stop by the Munster Police Department's lobby (located at 1001 Ridge Road) to pick-up FREE police support signs (displayed above) and FREE blue glow necklaces for your children to wear on the afternoon and evening of October 6th (limit one per child please). These support signs, which can be held or displayed in your window, are being sponsored by Girl Scouts Troop 15103 who are collecting monetary donations to fund them. Signs and/or glow necklaces can be obtained from the department's Records window (Monday-Friday during daytime business hours) while supplies last. Thank you to the Girl Scouts for their support!
CANNED FOOD DRIVE
That day from 8:00am to 2:00pm, the Munster Police Department will be collecting canned food donations at the police station. Please bag up your canned goods and leave them in the station lobby for later donation to a local food pantry. We especially wish to look out for our fellow residents in need during this difficult time.
