MUNSTER POLICE SERGEANT HONORED BY INDIANA GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Following a round table discussion on mental health on August 28, 2024 at the Munster Town Hall, Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and Indiana State Representative Mike Andrade presented Munster Police Sergeant Jack DeLeeuw with a Proclamation from the Indiana General Assembly in recognition of his life-saving actions on July 16, 2024. Congratulations to Sergeant DeLeeuw for receiving this great honor from the State of Indiana.
This past July 16th, Sergeant DeLeeuw was on patrol when he observed a young man sitting on the ledge of Calumet Avenue over the 80/94 expressway, preparing to jump. He made contact with the man and was able to develop a rapport, resulting in Sergeant DeLeeuw being able to convince the man to get down from the ledge. The man was then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Sergeant DeLeeuw was also presented with a Meritorious Service Award from Munster Police Chief Steve Scheckel at a recent Munster Town Council Meeting for his actions on July 16th.
