Re: Extension of Suspension of Temporary Sign Enforcement

CC: Munster Town Manager, Town Council, Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Community
Development Department

In light of the continued COVID-19-related state restrictions on business hours and operations, the Town of Munster Community Development Department will extend the suspension of enforcement of temporary sign restrictions until February 28, 2021.

Until February 28, the Town will not require businesses to obtain a permit for temporary signs. This is a temporary measure intended to encourage businesses and healthcare facilities to indicate whether they are open; list hours of operation; describe modified procedures, such as “carry out only”; and display other similar messages.

Signs may be ground-installed, posted on buildings, or posted in business windows. Signs posted outdoors should be constructed of waterproof materials.

For safety reasons, the following must be observed:
• Temporary signs shall not be located within the public right-of-way
• Temporary signs shall not obstruct the line of sight of any operator of a vehicle;
• Temporary signs shall not move, flash, flutter, etc.

This is the first extension of the policy. Unless this policy is extended by memorandum, normal enforcement and restrictions shall resume on February 28, 2021. If you have any questions, please contact
the Community Development Department at 219-836-6990.
