The Munster Police Department strongly encourages residents to sign-up for the Smart911 Program, which can be done online through their website.  Please read below for more information about this important safety program.  

How Does Smart911 Work?

Smart911 allows citizens to provide the additional details that 911 call takers may need in order to assist them during an emergency.  When you dial 911 today the information received by the 911 call center can be limited based on the type of phone you are calling on.  With Smart911, anytime you make an emergency call from a phone registered with your Safety Profile, the 911 system recognizes your phone number and automatically displays your profile on the screen of the call taker who receives your call.

Why Use Smart911?

Smart911 can help protect you, your loved ones, and other members of your household.  By creating a Safety Profile with Smart911, you can take the time to provide important information such as individuals with special needs, pets, directions to your home, and photos of your children int he event that they were missing.  You can even sign-up for alerts and notifications in regards to weather, traffic, and other emergencies in our community.

Is My Information Kept Private?

Yes.  Your information is made available ONLY to 911 call takers and responders ONLY in the event that you call 911.  In some areas, you can choose to allow Smart911 to share your profile with Emergency Managers as they prepare for and respond to emergencies.

CRIME WATCH CAPTAINS are asked to encourage their neighbors to sign-up for this program.
