Community Park Update - August 2012

Community Park Update

The redevelopment of Community Park is well underway, representing the Town's continued commitment to implementing aspects of the Strategic Plan developed in 2008. The Town Council and Town staff have committed to improving the quality of life for Munster's residents, creating beautiful outdoor gathering places like Centennial Park. Upon its completion, Community Park will have improved facilities for outdoor sports like baseball, softball, and tennis, allowing Munster residents young and old to reap the benefits of participation in athletics.

Currently, the renovations are progressing well as the youth baseball and softball leagues wrap up their summer seasons. The completed renovations include:

·        Renovations of the pressbox;

·        The installation of a trench drain around the ball fields;

·        New concrete sidewalks and paths;

·        The installation of new light poles in the parking lots;

·        New playground equipment;

·        Installation of storm, sanitary, and water lines throughout the park;

·        And the masonry work on a new entrance sign.

Phase 2 of the redevelopment will begin late this summer, when "softball alley" will be completed and new Little League and softball fields will be built. We will also be repaving the existing Community Park parking lot and creating a new lot near the high school to increase parking capacity. In addition to improved ball fields, parents and younger children will enjoy the improved playground equipment and its close proximity to both the ball fields and the new restroom facilities. The expectation is that the majority of this project will be complete in the summer of 2013, allowing residents to enjoy the improvements during the summer youth leagues.

The Town of Munster appreciates the patience of our residents during the renovation of Community Park. These improvements will enhance the experience of our baseball and softball teams and their fans, and improve the quality of outdoor activities in Munster for many residents.
