Town of Munster Indiana

BP Petroleum Update – January 30, 2026 

• BP activity on two inactive pipelines in Munster continues.
• Construction work is nearing completion in Somerset Park.
• Follow up backfilling and landscaping will be planned at work sites based on temperature and other relevant conditions. 
• Crews are expected to begin excavation and construction activities in the Twin Creek neighborhood and Briar Creek Park areas next week.
• The community can expect to see heavy machinery at and near the work site. Additional noise may be heard with the construction.
• Residents may smell odors in the surrounding area. bp is utilizing equipment to mitigate odors as work is conducted.  Air monitoring is in place.
• The Indiana Department of Emergency Management (IDEM) has been engaged throughout the entirety of this work.
• The safety of our responders, the community, and the environment remain our highest priority. Updates will be issued as more information becomes available.
