Town of Munster Indiana

Aug. 26, 2025 - Munster, Indiana: bp response crews secured the source of the oil sheen detected in a Munster stormwater catch basin and are expected to complete backfilling the excavation site tomorrow. We addressed the impacted stormwater system and will repair a section discovered during our initial investigation.  We will continue monitoring the stormwater system over the next couple weeks and will have personnel and equipment on site supporting that repair. We expect any remaining odors in the area to dissipate.   

We will remain in communication with local authorities, including the Munster Fire Department. Further, we notified the appropriate governmental agencies, including the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.  

Ongoing air monitoring continues to show no elevated readings outside of the immediate excavation area.  

We ask the public to continue avoiding the immediate area and follow the instructions of on-scene personnel. 

We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the patience of area residents as we continue operations. The safety of our responders, the community and the environment remain our highest priority.
