Dear Munster Resident,
On August 4, 2008 at 8p.m., winds approaching 90 mph, heavy rain fall and intense lightning did extense damage in many areas of the community. Thousands of homes, businesses, and public facilities lost power. Some areas were not able to be reconnected until late Saturday afternoon.
The after-affects of the storm impacted businesses and residents all over the community. Notification is always an issue in emergency situations. The Town of Munster tries to use several different methods to ensure as many individuals as possible are notified as rapidly as possible. Because staff was busy with the physical storm clean up, we did not have the resources to send individuals door to door. So in spite of our efforts, however, there were areas of the community that were not reached.
In an effort to better accomplish this task in the future, we are working to update our Town-wide database of phone numbers (both cellphones and land lines) and email addresses. This will allow the Town to contact someone at your residence or business as quickly as possible. We are also asking for volunteers who would be willing to convass their neighborhood in case of a similar situaation in the future so that individuals without phones/email are able to obtain the necessary information as well.
Please help us in this endeavor by filling in the form below with the information needed. All information provided to the Town will be kept confidential and used for Town of Munster purposes only.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Thomas F. DeGiulio
Town of Manager
