Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Orientation Meeting
Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 6:30pm
Munster Police Department - 1001 Ridge Road
Munster residents 21 years of age or older who are interested in receiving more information about participating in our Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program, are invited to attend a brief orientation meeting on Wednesday, February 19th at 6:30pm at the Munster Police Department, located at 1001 Ridge Road. This meeting will provide information about the duties and expectations of VIPS participants as well as the selection process and applications will be made available following the meeting for those who are still interested.
VIPS assist the Munster Police Department and our community with a number of different kinds of duties, depending on the training level of the individual participant. These duties might include office duties, assisting during community events, vacation checks, funeral escorts, directing traffic, and actively patrolling neighborhoods and business districts as an extra eyes and ears for the police department.
VIPS do not carry weapons and do not have any police powers, but have proven to be an extremely great resource for our police department and the community. Please note that participants are on a volunteer basis only.
For more information about this meeting or the VIPS Program, please contact Officer James Ghrist, VIPS Program Coordinator, at 219-836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org.
