Title VI and ADA Compliance

Title VI (Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964)

The Town of Munster values each individual’s civil rights and wishes to provide equal opportunity and equitable service for the citizens of this state. As a recipient of federal funds, the Town of Munster conforms to Title VI and all related statutes, regulations, and directives, which provide that no person shall be excluded from participation in, denied benefits of or subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance from the Town of Munster on the grounds of race, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, national origin, religion, income status or limited English proficiency. The Town of Munster further assures every effort will be made to ensure nondiscrimination in all of its programs and activities, regardless of whether those programs and activities are federally funded.

The Town of Munster has created a Title VI Implementation Plan that details the Town's commitment to Title VI and establishes a complaint process for violations. The plan can be viewed in full here: Title VI Implementation Plan.

ADA (The Americans with Disabilities Act)

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted on July 26, 1990. The ADA extended civil rights legislation to people with disabilities and is a companion to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The ADA has broad application to public agencies and private businesses in its protection against discrimination against people with disabilities.

The Town of Munster created and adopted an ADA Transition Plan in December 2012. This plan details the Town's commitment to the ADA and establishes a complaint process for violations. The plan can be viewed in full here: 2023 ADA Transition Plan
