On Thursday, February 19, 2009 the Munster Police Department's Neighborhood Crime Watch program formed their 100th Group since the implementation of the program in April 2005 (the 1st Neighborhood Crime Watch group was formed on Beacon Place). The 100th group was formed in the 7600-8000 Blocks of State Line Avenue by a volunteer Block Captain after he was able to sign up a number of his neighbors for membership into the group.
As with the other 99 groups spread all throughout town, the members of the group will receive the Munster Neighborhood Crime Watch Weekly Report by email each week from their Block Captain after he receives it from the police department. The report will keep them informed about recent crime activity, arrests, news, and effective prevention methods. The members will be continously encouraged to contact the Munster Police Department if they witness any suspicious activity or have any information about past incidents.
If you are interested in starting up your own Neighborhood Crime Watch group please contact Officer James Ghrist, D.A.R.E./Crime Prevention Officer for the Munster Police Department, at 836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org for more information.
