2008 Flood Information back
Date of Record: January 10, 2009

                        ·      THE HAMMOND SANITARY DISTRICT schedule is attached.

·      As the flood recedes, please beware of contractors who are looking to perform work on your home.  Call the Community Development Department at 836-6990 to ask about particular contractors and their licensure in Munster.   The list of licensed contractors for restoration, electric, and plumbing, is attached below.

·     Please contact the Building Department at 836-6990 if you need to schedule a re-inspection or have questions about contractors.

·    Please be sure to take pictures of the damage that your residence has suffered; these documents may be useful later.

·      Some facts about the levee at the Little Calumet River:

o         The old levee on Munster's side is 1-2 feet lower than on the Hammond side.

o         Munster requested that the Army Corp of Engineers to raise our side of the levee.  The request was denied as the new levee project was due to be started soon.  They would not allow us to do the work, either.

o         The first part of Munster's reconstructed levee accommodated the water and held up perfectly.  That is why the completion of this project is so crucial.

The Town of Munster would like to thank all volunteers for their efforts and all residents for their cooperation in this major flood event.
