Organization Profile
The Munster Police Department consists of 36 sworn officers and 9 non-sworn personnel. The sworn officers include nine Sergeants, three Detectives, a DARE/Crime Prevention Officer, and a School Resource Officer. The uniform patrol division, consisting of 22 officers, work permanent shifts and have specialized training in areas of evidence technician, field training, accident investigation, tactical response, and other areas of policing. The patrol division has three main functions; traffic enforcement, crime prevention and apprehension. The vehicle fleet consists of 12 marked patrol units and five unmarked units. The non-sworn personnel consist of an Information Director, five dispatchers, a community services officer, a Chaplain, two records clerks and two secretaries. The department is headed by Chief Steve Scheckel and overseen by a Board of Safety and Town Council.
