Citizens Police Academy

2018 Citizens Academy

Our 2018 Citizens Police Academy Class Participants stand with program coordinator Officer James Ghrist

This 6-week course, held once a week, is an excellent way for residents to learn more about the Munster Police Department, the duties of our officers, and our role in the community.  The class is open to Munster residents only, ages 18 and older, and participants must submit to a simple background check.

Classes typically include the following topics:  Introduction to the Munster Police Department, Shoot/Don't Shoot Scenarios, Investigative Techniques, Hand-cuffing, Patrol Techniques, SWAT Exercises & Equipment, Conducting Traffic Stops, Community Policing & School Safety, a tour of the Lake County Dispatch Facility, and more.  Each participant will also be provided with a RIDE-ALONG with an officer upon completion of the program.

For more information about the Munster Police Department's Citizens Police Academy Program, please contact Officer James Ghrist at 219-836-6639 or jghrist@munster.org.
